Walk and Talk Therapy

Woodland Path

What is Walk and Talk?

Walk and Talk Therapy is a form of therapy that takes place outdoors, typically in natural settings such as woodland paths, alongside streams, or in areas with scenic views. The sessions follow a pre-arranged route or are held in a space conducive to therapeutic work. This approach is particularly beneficial for clients who may find traditional, face-to-face sessions in a therapy room challenging. Walking side-by-side in a natural environment can offer a sense of ease and openness, supporting the therapeutic process.

The focus of the sessions remains consistent with that of a conventional therapy setting, with the added benefit of connecting to the natural world. As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework in all my work, whether indoors or outdoors.

What are the Benefits?

Spending time in green or natural spaces has been shown to significantly enhance mental health and emotional wellbeing. Research indicates that nature exposure can reduce levels of cortisol (the body’s primary stress hormone), alleviate symptoms of stress and anxiety, and improve overall mood. Engaging the senses in a natural environment also releases endorphins, lowers blood pressure, aids digestion, and supports heart health.

Walk and Talk Therapy helps relax the body physically, which in turn allows the mind to begin to relax. Clients often find that their emotional experiences resonate with the seasons—such as the sense of renewal in spring or feelings of loss in autumn—which can further support reflective therapeutic work.

Walking also has a bilateral effect on the brain, which has been linked to emotional processing and a sense of moving forward. This process activates the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), which helps the body and mind reach a calm and grounded state. Clients who previously felt emotionally ‘stuck’ may experience progress through the physical act of walking.

Sessions for Walk and Talk are £60 for 1 hour.
